You can care for a bruised eye by applying ice to the area as soon as possible after the injury occurs. The main purpose of the ice is to help deal with any inflammation and pain, but it can also decrease swelling.

Applying a cold compress to a bruised swollen eye can help to relieve inflammation and reduce swelling. The cold compress should be applied to the eye with very gentle pressure for approximately 20 minutes at a time. In addition to cold compresses, warm compresses are effective in returning the damaged skin to its natural color.
