Bruise Like Marks On Back

Bruising. Black and blue marks are often associated with bruises. A bruise, or contusion, appears on the skin due to trauma. Examples of trauma are a cut or a blow to an area of the body. The injury causes tiny blood vessels called capillaries to burst. Blood gets trapped below the skin’s surface, which causes a bruise.

The list of medical condition causes of Back bruise (Bruised back) includes: Blunt trauma. Coagulopathy. Anticoagulant medications. Spinal fracture. Pancreatitis.

A common symptom we see in a lot of our patients is a tender or bruised feeling on or around the spine. This bruising can occur from the low back region, all the way up to the neck. It can be accompanied by a visible bruise, or simply be a tender area on or around the “notches” in the spine.

A bruised feeling near the spine is a common symptom of a bulging disc or a herniated disc. These conditions occur when a spinal disc protrudes out of its proper place (bulging disc), or when a disc is ruptured (herniated disc).

Significant pain, bruising and swelling of the skin and tissues over the neck or back may raise the suspicion of a spinal cord injury. A physical examination may reveal loss of sensation, weakness, and abnormal reflexes.

A back muscle strain that has a bruise suggests significant tearing, leading to the pooling of blood in the region, meaning at least a grade two or three strain. Your doctor will properly assess the injury, making sure there is nothing more significant to be concerned over, such as a spinal injury or a broken bone.

When you have multiple spinal compression fractures, your spine will change a lot. Part of your vertebrae may collapse because the cracks mean it can’t support the weight of your spine.

When a spinal disc begins to bulge or herniate, it can compress nearby nerves, which can lead to tenderness in the area. Many people feel more tenderness when pressing on the area, but for others, compression can actually help to relieve symptoms.

When you have a low back bruise, it’s often caused by a direct blow or an impact, such as falling against a counter or table. Bruises are common sports injuries. Most people think of a bruise as a black-and-blue spot. This happens when small blood vessels get torn and leak blood under the skin.

A “bruise” on a spinal cord is really an injury to the tracts of the cord. The signal change (white spot on the T2 MRI images) is swelling into the substance of the cord. The surgery is designed to prevent further injury.
